Russian Aerospace Forces to Receive Tu-22M3M Bombers Since 2021 - Manufacturer

Russian Aerospace Forces will start receiving modernized Tu-22M3M long-range strategic bombers since 2021, Yury Slyusar, the president of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) aircraft manufacturing company, said on Thursday

KAZAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Russian Aerospace Forces will start receiving modernized Tu-22M3M long-range strategic bombers since 2021, Yury Slyusar, the president of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) aircraft manufacturing company, said on Thursday.

"Starting next year combat aircraft will begin to arrive at the plant for this profound modernization, the aircraft's delivery will take place since 2021," Slyusar told reporters during the unveiling ceremony of the first Tu-22M3M modernized bomber.

Tu-22M3 is a long-range bomber, which is designed to counter sea and ground targets at a distance of up to 2,200 kilometers (1,367 miles) by guided missiles and aviation bombs. The first experimental flight was carried out in 1977, and in March 1989 the aircraft was finally put into service.

The Russian Aerospace Forces used Tu-22M3 aircraft along with Tu-160, Tu-95MS strategic bombers in Syria to attack positions of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, outlawed in Russia.
