The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Czech non-governmental organization People in Need have sent more than 220 tonnes of cargo containing humanitarian aid to residents of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service said Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Czech non-governmental organization People in Need have sent more than 220 tonnes of cargo containing humanitarian aid to residents of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service said Thursday.

"Fifteen trucks with humanitarian aid from the People in Need charity and the International Committee of the Red Cross weighing over 220 tonnes passed through the Novotroitske checkpoint," the Border Guard Service said in a statement.

Donbas is suffering from a dire humanitarian situation amid an ongoing conflict caused by Kiev's military operation, launched against the self-proclaimed republics in the Donbas region after the latter refused to recognize the new Ukrainian government that came to power in 2014 in what they perceived to be a coup.

In February 2015, the two sides to the Ukrainian conflict reached a ceasefire agreement following talks brokered by the Normandy Four states in the Belarusian capital of Minsk. Despite this, multiple ceasefire violations have been registered since then and continue to this day.
