MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) A group of unidentified gunmen attacked an Afghan National Army training center in Kabul on Thursday, with clashes between attackers and security forces still being underway, local media reported.

According to TOLOnews broadcaster, the attack started at about 10:15 a.m. local time (05:45 GMT) in Kabuls Qala-e-Wazir district.

The broadcaster later tweeted that security forces had cordoned off all roads around the center and engaged in a fight with insurgents.

According to local residents, at least one explosion and continued gunfire have been heard in the area, the media outlet added.

On Wednesday, an attack on a private educational facility in Kabul claimed lives of 48 people, while 67 others were injured.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable security situation. The government has been fighting the Taliban radical movement, which has been waging a war against Kabul for almost two decades, and the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2015.
