Asghar Khan Case: Supreme Court Seeks Implementation Report Within A Month

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the authorities to submit implementation report regarding the Federal Cabinet's decision in the Asghar Khan case within a month.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Aug, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the authorities to submit implementation report regarding the Federal Cabinet's decision in the Asghar Khan case within a month.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while heading a three-member bench which heard the case regarding distribution of money among the politicians by an intelligence agency in the 1990s, observed that the cabinet had decided about the trial of responsible army officers by a military court, but that order had not been implemented as yet.

A representative of the Defence Ministry informed the court that the Interior Ministry had not forwarded a summary in that regard to the Defence Minister and sought four weeks time to submit a detailed report on the matter.

Accepting the Defence Ministry's request, the court adjourned the case till September 15. It also directed the Defence Ministry to provide required information to the Federal Investigation Agency.

The CJP made it clear that the court orders would have to be implemented.

It may be added that late Air Marshal (retired) Asghar Khan had filed a case that the intelligence agency had disbursed some Rs140 million among certain politicians to form Islami Jamhoori Itehad (IJT) in order to prevent the Pakistan Peoples Party PPP from winning the 1988 general election.
