The United States nearly broke relations with Turkey, Ankara is disappointed with Washington's actions, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Wednesday.
ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) The United States nearly broke relations with Turkey, Ankara is disappointed with Washington's actions, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Wednesday.
"Because of one pastor, the United States brought relations with Turkey almost to a complete halt... We are deeply disappointed," Kalin said.
He said no talks of the Turkish and US presidents are on agenda yet.
Turkish authorities put US pastor Andrew Brunson in jail in 2016 for alleged ties to the movement of Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, referred to as Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) by Ankara and accused of having orchestrated a failed military coup that took place in Turkey the same year. The pastor was released from a Turkish prison in July and placed under house arrest.
