Lomonosov Moscow State University has made it to the top-100 of the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), while three other Russian universities were listed in the ARWU top-500.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) Lomonosov Moscow State University has made it to the top-100 of the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), while three other Russian universities were listed in the ARWU top-500.
The ARWU placed Moscow State University on the 86th position, which is 7 points higher than last year. St.Petersburg State University made it to the group of the top 301-400, while Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and Novosibirsk State University were placed in the 401-500 group.
"MIPT entered the [ARWU] Shanghai ranking thanks to two conditions. First of all, high assessment by our graduates ... Secondly, growing number of publications in the most prestigious academic journals ... In order to reach this year's objectives, we opened nine laboratories with the leading institutes of the Russian academy of Sciences and brought back experts from the world's leading research centers, including Caltech, Oxford and Hannover," Vitali Bagan, the MIPT's vice rector for research and development, told Sputnik.
Harvard University has topped the ranking for 16 consecutive years. Stanford and Cambridge have retained the second and third positions respectively, as compared to 2017.
The 2018 ARWU is released by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Since 2003, the ARWU has been presenting the world top-500 universities annually and is recognized as one of the leading university rankings, together with QS University Rankings and Times Higher education World University Rankings.
