Total of 30% of UK Asians Say Experience Worse Treatment After Terrorist Attacks - Survey

Just over 30 percent of the UK citizens of South Asian decent say that they are being treated worse than usual following terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom, a survey conducted by ComRes consultancy revealed on Tuesday.

According to the results of the survey, another 15 percent of the respondents of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan or mixed decent said that they were treated better in the United Kingdom after attacks, with a total of more than 44 percent saying that they had not felt any difference in treatment.

Over 60 percent of the respondents who faced mistreatment said that they had experienced more awkwardness from people, while 53 percent noticed more suspicion toward them.

Muslim and Sikh respondents accounted for the largest part of those, who have been mistreated, with over 40 percent Muslims and almost 27 percent of Sikhs saying that they had been treated worse than usual after terrorist attacks.

The survey also revealed that almost 47 percent of the maltreated respondents believed the country to be less tolerant with 44 percent of them distrusting the police.

The survey was conducted for the BBC Asian Network radio station in July over the phone among a total of 2,026 UK citizens of South Asian decent.
