WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is has sent confidential emails to banks in the United States warning them of a potential hacking that could affect Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) across the country, media reported on Tuesday.

The FBI shared private alerts about a possible large-scale cyberattack on US financial institutions last week, business Insider reported after confirming the information with a spokesman of a major bank.

Hackers would allegedly try to compromise a bank or a card processor with malware that could allow them to access private information of account holders, according to the report.

The report did not specify which banks are threatened to be attacked and did not outline what measure should customers take to avoid becoming a victim.

The FBI in a statement to the media said the bureau routinely sends advisories regarding possible hacker attack to private industries.
