Uganda Police Arrest 3 Lawmakers After Attack on Presidential Convoy - Press Release

The Ugandan police force said in a press release on Tuesday that it had arrested three opposition lawmakers and scores of other suspects after an attack on the convoy of President Yoweri Museveni.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) The Ugandan police force said in a press release on Tuesday that it had arrested three opposition lawmakers and scores of other suspects after an attack on the convoy of President Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni's convoy was attacked in the northern town of Arua on Monday ahead of a parliamentary by-election due to be held on Wednesday by supporters of independent candidate Kasiano Wadri, police said. During the attack, one vehicle bearing the presidential coat of arms had its windscreen smashed.

"Scores of suspects have been arrested including the following: candidate Kasiano Wadri, MPS Paul Mwiru, Gerald Karuhanga, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi and former MP Michael Mabikke among others in connection with the incidents mentioned above to help in the ongoing investigation," the press release, published on Uganda Police Force's Facebook page, read.

Media reported on Monday that a driver of Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, was shot dead in Arua during campaigning for the by-election.
