Iraq Complies With Anti-Iranian Sanctions Only in Relation to Dollar Transactions - Abadi

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi said on Monday that Baghdad was adhering to US sanctions against Tehran only in aspects related to the use of US currency in bilateral transactions.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi said on Monday that Baghdad was adhering to US sanctions against Tehran only in aspects related to the use of US Currency in bilateral transactions.

On Thursday, the Central Ban of Iraq announced that commercial banks were prohibited from using US Dollars in transactions with Iranian entities after the United States had effectuated its anti-Iranian sanctions, lifted under the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Washington withdrew from the JCPOA in May and announced it would re-impose restrictions against Tehran and third parties doing business with Iran.

"We adhere to non-use of US dollars in transactions with Iran, but not to anti-Iranian sanctions," the official told the Alsumaria broadcaster.

Iraq buys about $6.6 worth of Iranian goods annually. Iran supplies the neighbor with food, domestic appliances, cars and automotive parts.
