"ICE arrests of immigrants without criminal convictions have spiked 203 percent in the first full 14 months of his [Trumps] presidency compared to the final 14 months of the Obama administration, growing from 19,128 to 58,010," NBC news reported.
A new tactic of arresting people without warrants is responsible for the spike, the report said. At the same time, the number of arrests of criminal illegal aliens increased only for 18 percent.
Analysts suggest that the figures may be even bigger in the future as the number of arrests has a trend to increase.
Last Tuesday, US media reported that Trump administration plans to announce a new policy designed to make it harder for legal immigrants to obtain US citizenship or permanent resident status.
Trump has repeatedly criticized former President Barack Obama's immigration policies and pledged to make significant changes.
He argues that the United States should welcome the most qualified individuals from other countries and carefully vet immigration applicants from countries where terrorism is endemic.
