I have never seen Rs8bn in my life: Citizen during fake bank accounts case

An interesting dialogue took place between FIA DG and Adnan Javed who was surprised upon coming to know that he had Rs 8 billion in his account.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 7th August, 2018) A hearing on fake bank accounts and money laundering was held in the Supreme Court on Monday.

An interesting dialogue took place between Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) DG Bashir Memon and a citizen Adnan Javed who was surprised upon coming to know that he had Rs 8 billion in his account.

The FIA DG asked the citizen how he got such a huge amount in his account to which, he said he has never seen this much money in his life and he has no idea how they got transferred to his account.

Sources said that a citizen having a business of computers had opened three company accounts by the name of Lucky International. The citizen had deposited Rs 5,000 at the time of opening of the accounts.

The citizen adopted that he never checked the balance after opening the bank accounts. The FIA’s questions dropped on him like a bomb during money laundering investigations.

At least Rs 8 billion were deposited in the fake accounts made on his name. The citizen recorded statements before the FIA Karachi and FIA Islamabad during investigations.

The FIA is investigating 29 'benami' accounts that were allegedly used to channel illicit funds. Former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur are among those who are accused of being beneficiaries of the suspicious transactions, while his close aide Hussain Lawai is one of the people accused of facilitating the opening of the fake accounts.

The apex court had earlier this month taken a suo motu notice of the 2015 probe into suspicious transactions made through 29 'benami' accounts,16 held in Summit Bank, eight in Sindh Bank and five in UBL.
