RIYADH, (Pakistan Point News - 04th Aug, 2018) Hedayah, the International Centre of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism, organised, in collaboration with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Sawt Al Hekma, a workshop on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE).

In efforts to raise awareness among member countries on the root causes of violent extremism, the workshop provided an opportunity for the countries to engage in discussions and showcase key elements of international good practice responses to reduce the threat of violent extremism.

Maqsoud Kruse, Executive Director of Hedayah, led a number of sessions to introduce the conceptual framework of CVE, drivers of radicalization, good practices and Hedayah’s experiences from the local, regional and international context in order to deepen the participants’ understanding of their country or organization’s role in countering violent extremism.

The discussions also stressed the importance of identifying and contextualizing local push and pull factors to develop and implement more effective CVE initiatives, while utilizing existing frameworks to ensure holistic approaches.

Hedayah and OIC’s collaboration in bringing forth this workshop exemplified their cooperation and coordination, formalized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding last year, to better understand and integrate religious perspectives into CVE initiatives across various areas, including education, community engagement, alternative narratives among others.
