These two groups are of Jahangir Tareen and Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 4th August, 2018) Veteran journalist Sohail Warraich while talking on a tv program has said that Fawad Chaudhry is his favourite candidate for Punjab chief minister.
He said that there are two groups within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who are at odds on the choice for the Punjab CM. These two groups are of Jahangir Tareen and Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
The journalist said that Aleem Khan has long been a candidate for Punjab CM while Imran Khan had also been giving this impression although he never explicitly said so.
Whenever Imran Khan visited Lahore, he stayed at Aleem Khan’s place and his office. Even the central Punjab tickets were also distributed by Aleem Khan, he said.
On the other hand, Shah Mehmood Qureshi also wished to be the Punjab CM but he lost the election from his provincial seat. Meanwhile, Jahangir Tareen had given the provincial ticket to Khakwani and wanted him to become Punjab CM but he also lost the election, Sohail Warraich said.
Now that Shah Mehmood Quershi and Jahangir Tareen can’t contest, they want to bring a dummy chief minister so if Jahangir Tareen is released from his cases and Shah Mehmood wins the provincial election, they can contest for Punjab CM, the journalist added.
He went on to say, “Whoever becomes the Punjab CM would want to get a permanent position. The PTI is now considering three Names, including Aslam Iqbal, Dr Yasmin Rashid and another candidate from Mianwali who is Jahangir Tareen’s relative and his brother is Shah Mehmood’s friend. They have studied in Aitchison together which makes him a good candidate.”
Now it is to be seen how Imran Khan appeases the two groups within the party, the journalist concluded.
