SC Orders Freezing Of Medicines' Prices For Next 10 Weeks

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Aug, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court on Friday ordered freezing of prices of medicines in the country for next 10 weeks.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders while hearing a suo motu over increase in medicine prices, at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
Earlier, the Drug Regularity Authority officials informed the court that a policy had been devised for the increase of medicine prices after consultation with all stakeholder.
However, before the policy could be implemented, there was a need to handle all the cases pending in different courts against the authority, they added.
At this, the court gave the authority 10 weeks to wrap up all the cases while freezing the price of medicine at the current level.
The bench also directed the Federal government to appoint a permanent chief executive of the drug authority.
