Hurricane Matthew hit Caribbean, 6 people killed and many displaced

Haiti, (Pakistan Point News – 5th October, 2016) : Hurricane Matthew slammed into Haiti Tuesday, triggering floods and forcing thousands to flee the path of a storm that has already claimed three lives in the poorest country in the Americas. 6 people are dead and 1 missing as Hurricane Matthew continues to slowly move across the Caribbean toward Cuba. The US National Hurricane Center said Matthew made landfall shortly after daybreak as an "extremely dangerous" Category Four storm near the southwestern town of Les Anglais, packing maximum sustained winds of around 145 miles (230 kilometers) per hour.

Heavy rains from the powerful category 4 storm killed four people in landslides and displaced 17,751 in the Dominican Republic. Due to the typhoon 31 communities have been left without access; whereas 794 people have been shifted to shelters. Meanwhile, state of emergency has been declared in American states of South Carolina, Florida and Georgia of and ordered an evacuation of more than a million people in coastal in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew, which is expected to start affecting U.S. coastal areas late on Thursday or early Friday.
