'Our Ambassadors Programme' concludes exploratory enrichment programme in US

Diplomatic Ambassadors, part of the Ministry of Education's "Our Ambassadors Programme" 2018, on Friday concluded an exploratory journey to the United States aimed at developing the scientific and personal skills in diplomacy and international relations of Emirati students.

NEW YORK, (Pakistan Point News - 28th Jul, 2018) Diplomatic Ambassadors, part of the Ministry of education's "Our Ambassadors Programme" 2018, on Friday concluded an exploratory journey to the United States aimed at developing the scientific and personal skills in diplomacy and international relations of Emirati students.

Supported by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the programme aims to enrich the experience of Emirati school students and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve the ministry's vision to create generations that master 21st-century skills and are equipped with unique and diverse experiences offered to the programme’s pioneers.

During the summer enrichment programme, the students were divided into two groups of 25 members each. The first went to Harvard University while the other headed to Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

Ahlam Mohamed Al Ahmed, Supervisor of the Emirati Students' Programme at Harvard University, said at both the US universities, Emirati students along with other international students, were introduced to and trained on mechanisms of diplomatic work and principles of international relations within a UN simulation programme based on its charter and international law.

She stated that the programme included information about diplomatic representation, international organisations and concepts and rules of international politics.

She added that the students learned about global pressing challenges at the international forums including development, climate change, global warming and other environmental, cultural, and humanitarian issues. The students also gained knowledge about the international organisations' mandates, the limits of their influence, the decision-making methods and the stages before the adoption and enforcement of such decisions.

The ministry's programme helps transfer essential knowledge and expose students to practices from elite institutions, aligned with the UAE’s ambitions towards a knowledge-based economy.

The different groups part of the 2018 programme will be spread across 10 destinations: the USA, Switzerland, Tanzania, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Canada.

The programme comes in the context of the Ministry of Education's keenness to create qualified UAE nationals who can work in the diplomatic corps in the future. The ministry has, therefore, signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Emirates Diplomatic academy to benefit from its expertise, its cadres, and its network of enrolled lecturers and trainers.

The programme equips students with several skills, including the art of dialogue and accepting different views.
