The Arab League will hold an international conference, titled, "Alliance of Civilisations: A Message to Media Professionals," at the headquarters of the State Information Service in Cairo on Sunday, in cooperation with the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations, UNAOC, the regional office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO in Cairo, the State Information Service and the Egypt Media Development Programme, EMDP.
CAIRO, (Pakistan Point News - 26th Jul, 2018) The Arab League will hold an international conference, titled, "Alliance of Civilisations: A Message to Media Professionals," at the headquarters of the State Information Service in Cairo on Sunday, in cooperation with the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations, UNAOC, the regional office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO in Cairo, the State Information Service and the Egypt Media Development Programme, EMDP.
The Arab League affirmed, in a press release today, that the conference, which will coincide with the "World Day for Cultural Diversity and Combatting Racial Discrimination," is part of its efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals, especially Goal No. 16 to encourage peaceful and cohesive communities and implement the goals of the unified "Arab Strategic Plan for the Alliance of Civilisations 2016-2019."
The conference is also being held due to the awareness of its organising authorities of the media’s vital role in promoting neutral and objective messages about other cultures, as well as the importance of developing a media discourse that will strengthen the values of tolerance and the acceptance of others and support freedom of opinion and expression while combatting extremism, violence and terrorism.
The league pointed out that the conference will aim to introduce the vital role of the UNAOC in spreading peaceful coexistence, the acceptance of other cultures and cultural pluralism, as well as in establishing understanding, tolerance, dialogue and mutual respect between nations and peoples, through various programmes and activities related to the media, education, the youth and migration.
