PTV restricts Nawaz Sharif’s coverage ahead of return

Says no convicted person is to be shown or talked about on any PTV channel or programme.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 12th July, 2018) Just as Nawaz Sharif is set to return to the country on Friday, Pakistan’s state television ptv has restricted the coverage of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his homecoming rally.

The PTV is barred to show the political activities of Nawaz Sharif on grounds that no convicted person is to be shown or talked about on any PTV channel or programme.

The office order issued by the PTV news controller goes on like, “Please note that no convicted person is to be shown or talked about on any PTV channel/programme, whether in paid advertisements, news or current affairs talk shows.”

The order further said that it is “issued with the approval of the competent authority”.

Furthermore, there are reports that as Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are set to return to the country on Friday, the caretaker setup has also geared up its actions to stop PMLN workers to go to the Lahore airport to welcome Nawaz Sharif.

According to reports, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter will be arrested right from the airport and will be shifted to Adiala Jail.

If any of the PMLN candidates tries to protest the arrest, he will be disqualified through the ECP.

PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif is in London with his daughter Maryam Nawaz. The two are set to return to the country on July 13. Meanwhile, the wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has also regained consciousness.

According to Maryam Nawaz, Kulsoom Nawaz has blinked her eyes for the first time in 30 days.

The Accountability Court had announced its verdict in the Avenfield Reference against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar last Friday.

According to the verdict, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced to jail for 10 years, his daughter Maryam Nawaz for seven years and Maryam's husband Capt (r) Safdar for one year. Moreover, Nawaz Sharif has been fined £8 million in the case while Maryam Nawaz has been fined £2 million. The London flats will also be confiscated, according to the verdict.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has put the Names of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in the Exit Control List (ECL) upon National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request.

Caretaker Minister for Information and Law Affairs Barrister Syed Ali Zafar on Tuesday said that the government would implement the court orders regarding arrest of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, on their arrival from London at Lahore airport on Friday.
