NHSR,UNFPA To Organize National Commemoration Of World Population Day Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jul, 2018 ) :Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) would organized National Commemoration of World Population Day on Wednesday (July 11).

According to the official of UNFPA distinguished speakers including Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh, Federal Minister, NHSR&C ,Capt (Retd) Zahid Saeed, Federal Secretary, Ministry of NHSR&C, Dr Hassan, Mohtashami, UNFPA Representative, Pakistan,H E Margaret Adamson, High Commissioner of Australia Kemi Williams, Deputy Head of DFID in Pakistan,Ch Faisal Mushtaq, Minister for Population Welfare, Government of Punjab,Dr. Saadia Virik Rizvi, Minister for Population Welfare, Government of Sindh, Akbar Jan Marwat, Minister for Population Welfare, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Farzana Baloch, Minister for Population Welfare, Government of Balochistan would grace the event.

The theme for this year's World Population Day is 'Family Planning is a Human Right'.

This rights-based approach towards family planning ensures that a couple is entitled to decide on their family size, thereby ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted.

This year marks 50 years since family planning was declared a basic human right at the United Nations International Conference on Human Rights in Tehran, Iran.

Despite tremendous progress since 1968, hundreds and millions of women, men and young people are unable to exercise the right to plan their families.

It will be highlighted that the institutional system should be strengthened to ensure family planning information and services are available and accessible to every woman in Pakistan.

It will also be noted that every couple must be empowered to plan their own family, by dispelling the stigma around family planning.
