DoT wins IPI Award for Parking Organisation

The Department of Transport, DoT, in Abu Dhabi represented by the Integrated Transport Centre, ITC, has won the International Parking Institute, IPI, Award for the Parking Organisation of the Year – 2018.

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 02nd Jul, 2018) The Department of Transport, DoT, in Abu Dhabi represented by the Integrated Transport Centre, ITC, has won the International Parking Institute, IPI, Award for the Parking Organisation of the Year – 2018.

The IPI Award is an annual award specialised in planning, regulating and managing parking spaces. The US-based institute rewarded the ITC, which was selected among many other institutes and entities, with the award after a year-long study and performance assessment.

DoT’s winning of the IPI Award was announced during the annual IPI Conference and Expo that took place in Orlando, Florida, and was attended by many parking regulating authorities, international experts and operators from government, semi-government and private entities. Statistics showed a 94 percent satisfaction rate among customers with the services offered by Mawaqif and 98 percent compliance with Mawaqif regulations in the last three years.

DoT assured that winning this award was a result of the efforts the ITC is dedicating towards managing an integrated system for the parking spaces in Abu Dhabi including the public parking regulation, and dedicated parking spaces for special segments of the society such as people of determination, women, emergencies and fire hydrants. Additionally, they are offering an electronic system to issue resident parking permits, regulating paid parking spaces and offering an easy payment method to the public.

The IPI Conference and Expo praised DoT’s efforts dedicated to managing parking spaces and stated that the boost in the economy brought about a rapid population increase, and the additional vehicles created a severe parking shortage, especially in the central business district. Hence, DoT worked on finding alternative and innovative solutions to regulate the parking sector. Therefore, there was a reduction in traffic congestion and an increase in the society’s security and safety in the level of efficiency of the transport network.

"In just a few years, Mawaqif has risen to the top with innovation and leadership. We are proud to recognise their efforts and accomplishments with this high industry honour," said IPI CEO Shawn Conrad, CAE.

In this regard, DoT mentioned the social, economic and environmental benefits that result from the management of parking spaces in Abu Dhabi, such as the ultimate use of the parking spaces, elimination of random parking and creation of secured roads for smooth traffic flow, facilitating people’s daily lives and reducing the amount of time spent in looking for parking spaces.
