SCCI Participates In 21st Arab-German Business Forum

BERLIN, (Pakistan Point News - 01st Jul, 2018) The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SCCI, explored ways of developing economic relationships, expanding cooperation and investment opportunities, and exchanging knowledge and expertise with various sectors in Germany and other countries, at the conclusion of the 21st Arab-German Business Forum in Berlin.

The SCCI delegation was headed by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI.

The forum, which was attended by over 600 Arab and German business representatives, specialists and political and economic decision-makers, included the official participation of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait, who was its guest of honour. It also included the participation of senior officials, such as Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister of Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, and Dr. Volker Treier, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, DIHK.

The SCCI delegation included Raghda Hamad Omran Taryam, board Member of the SCCI, and Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Head of International Cooperation at the SCCI.

Al Owais highlighted the SCCI’s desire to participate in future editions of the forum, as well as the importance of developing economic relations between Arab countries and Germany. He added that German investments in Arab countries remain limited, and the chamber is working with its Arab and German counterparts to promote German investments.

Al Owais stressed that the SCCI delegation concentrated their efforts on encouraging both German officials and the German business community to forge relationships with Sharjah’s business community and invest in the emirate, to take advantage of its strategic location, flexible legislation and advanced infrastructure, as well as the attractive services provided by the chamber and various government authorities to the private sector.

The forum included six panel discussion on various topics, which are "Direct Investments and Know-How Transfer: Supporting the Industrialisation Plans in the Arab World," "Managing the Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities of Disruptive Change," "Infrastructure Megaprojects: Government as an Enabler for Inclusive Growth," "Food Industry: Building Partnerships for Sustainable Agriculture and food Security," "Shared Responsibility for Inclusive Development: Perspectives of Arab-German Cooperation, Political and Economic Challenges," and "The State of Kuwait: Sustainable Development and Growth."

The volume of Arab investments in Germany exceeded EUR100 billion, while the annual trade exchange between Arab countries and Germany reached a volume of EUR50 billion.
