The Transmission And Distribution Losses Of Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) Transmission, Distribution Losses Witness Upward Trend

The transmission and distribution losses of power distribution companies (DISCOs) have witnessed a slight increase during last one year and its average stood at 17 per cent.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Jun, 2018 ) :The transmission and distribution losses of power distribution companies (DISCOs) have witnessed a slight increase during last one year and its average stood at 17 per cent.
Official sources told APP here Friday that average losses have jumped to 16.6 per cent to 17 per cent during July-2017 to April 2018 registering 0.4 per cent increase.
The DISCOs sold 77,773.08 million Kwh electricity against purchased of total 88,924.44 million Kwh electricity registering 15,151.36 million Kwh loss.
Interestingly, they said losses of some DISCOs, including Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO), Multan Electric Supply Company (MEPCO) and Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (GEPCO) witnessed slightly decrease of 1.4 per cent, 0.6 per cent, 0.8 per cent, 2.2 per cent, 0.2 per cent and 0.
2 per cent respectively.
Similarly, losses of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) registered surge of 5.4 per cent, followed by 0.3 per cent by Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), 0.1 per cent Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and 0.5 per cent Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) during the said period.
Meanwhile, the aggregate technical and commercial (AT & C) losses of DISCOs also jacked up from 21.6 per cent to 24.7 per cent during the said period.
Giving the breakup, they said that AT & C losses of SEPCO jumped to 60.1 per cent from 27.7 per cent, QESCO to 80.6 per cent from 77.5 per cent, HESCO to 42.2 per cent from 34.1 per cent, LESCO to 10.5 per cent from 14.2 per cent, PESCO to 42.9 per cent from 39.5 per cent, TESCO to 37.8 per cent from 33.3 per cent, IESCO to 15.7 per cent from 14.1 per cent and MEPCO to 16.8 per cent from 15.4 per cent. However, FESCO managed to reduce AT & C losses from 9.1 per cent to 8.9 per cent.
