Kasur anti-judiciary rally: LHC punishes accused with one month jail, Rs1 lac fine

Former PMLN MNA Sheikh Waseem among those sentenced

Kasur (Pakistan Point News – 29th June, 2018) The Lahore High Court (LHC) has given its judgment against the Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PMLN) workers who carried out an anti-judiciary rally in Kasur.

A three-member LHC bench, comprising Justice Mazahir Ali Abkar Naqvi, announced the reserved verdict.

According to the verdict, a fine of Rs 1 lac has been imposed on former PMLN MNA Sheikh Waseem among four accused. The four PMLN members are also sentenced to one month in jail. They were arrested outside the court on Friday.

Former MPA Naeem Safdar and former Baldia Kasur chairman Haji Ayaz have been released.

The LHC had indicted six accused, including the two PMLN lawmakers, on May 11 for protesting in Kasur against the judiciary.

Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi announced the decision as he heard a petition against the six accused, including Kasur Baitul Maal Chairperson Nasir Mehmood and Market Committee Chairperson Jameel Ahmed.

On April 13, a protest rally was organised in Kasur wherein the PMLN leaders also participated. The case against rally participants was filed on the grounds that they used inappropriate language against the judiciary and other state institutions.

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took strict notice of the protest and directed PMLN leader Sheikh Aftab to take disciplinary action against party members involved in the protest.
