University of Engineering & Technology Lahore (UET) Vice Chancellor UET Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said this while addressing a National Capacity Building workshop on Application of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) for Hydrological Modelling and Disaster Management at UET on Monday.

"UET has always played a key role to enhance the capacity of institutions and this workshop is also part of this series," he added.

UNESCO Director Dr Shahbaz said, "we are struggling hard to get rid of this problem and our major goal is to resolve the water issues." Through this project in collaboration with the UET, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UNESCO the capacity of the Flood Management Institutes was being expanded across Pakistan." Director Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Engineering (CEWRE) Dr Habib-ur-Rehman delivered an impressive presentation on management and use of technology.

Experts from the UET, UNESCO and JICA had successfully made the equipment to create awareness about the flood, duration of rain and measure the intensity of flood due to the flow of water in rivers and canals.

At the end of the workshop, Dr Shahnaz presented the souvenir to the guest speakers and Vice Chancellor UET Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid presented the shield to Dr Shahbaz.

The UET organised the workshop with an objective to enhance the capacity of junior and middle level scientific, technical and executive engineers, hydrologists and other technical staff of flood related organisations and students of the leading institutions of Pakistan in the application of the Remote Sensing and GIS for Hydrologists Modeling and Disaster Management.
