French President Emmanuel Macron called on Tuesday for a "European response" to the EU's migration challenge amid deep divisions in the bloc.

The EU needs "a European response to the migration challenge," said Macron, with "more capacity" to monitor its borders and a mechanism creating greater "solidarity" outside and inside the union, he said.
