Mehwish Hayat stuns and smiles at SCO film festival 

‘Punjab nahi Jaungi’ receives special jury award at the festival

Beijing (Pakistan Point News – 19th June, 2018) Pakistani movie ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ won a special jury award at the first Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Film Festival that was held in Qingdao.

The romantic comedy film, starring Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat and Urwa Hocane in the lead roles, won the ‘Jury Special Award’ at the festival. The team of ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi, including Mehwish Hayat and Humayun Saeed, attended the festival in China.

Mehwish Hayat was all smiles for receiving the award as the team spend Eid away from home but made a huge achievement.

In her post on Instagram, Mehwish Hayat wrote, “Eid Mubarak all the way from China. I am very privileged to have been at the First Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival being held in Qingdao for the past few days where two of my films were representing Pakistan. It has been a fabulous event where we were able to build on the special friendship our two nations share.”

Speaking about receiving the award, Mehwish Hayat said, “I am proud to share that our film, "Punjab nahi Jaungi" has picked up the special jury award against competition from films from 12 other nations. This is a major honour for our fledgling industry and one that shows that we can compete with the best in the world. Many congratulations to the whole PNJ team on this much deserved accolade! We are bringing it home!”

In another post, she said, “Spending Eid away from friends and family and missing out on all the fun. But winning this little beauty has made it all worthwhile! The special jury award for Punjab nahi Jaungi at SCO film festival in China, Qingdao.”

Co-actor Humayun Saeed also shared the pictures from the festival.

The actor also shared some pictures from the closing ceremony of the SCO Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Pakistani actress Syra Shahroz’s debut film Chalay Thay Sath was also screened at the SCO Film Festival in China.

The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage had selected Chalay Thay Saath to represent Pakistan at the Infocus programme as well as the FilmMart expo in China.

The SCO film festival was held in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province from June 13 to June 17, 2018. Pakistan was one of the 12 countries to have been invited to participate in the SCO festival. It showcased 55 films from the SCO member and observer states, with 200 delegates in attendance.
