The Legitimate Yemeni Government Welcomes Continued Efforts For A Solution Based On UN Security Council Resolution 2216, The National Dialogue And The Gulf Initiative

ADEN, (Pakistan Point News - 18th Jun, 2018) The Legitimate Yemeni Government has welcomed the continued mediation efforts aimed at finding a solution to the current crisis that took place as a result of the Houthi Militia's overthrow of the legitimate government and is in compliance with, and based on the National Dialogue, the Gulf Initiative and UN Security Council resolutions, in particular resolution 2216.

In a statement released by the Yemen news Agency (SABA), the Yemeni government emphasised that the Houthi Militia’s continued lack of response to international efforts and intransigence will have serious repercussions on the humanitarian and political situation in Yemen. The government added that it continues its current effort to liberate Hudeidah and all other Houthi controlled Yemeni territory.

The Yemeni government condemned the Houthi Militia’s continued practice of planting mines in government buildings and areas populated by civilians and their refusal to allow civilians to move away from areas impacted by military operations and their use of civilians as human shields; a practice that is in violation of international laws as well as our cultural values. The Yemeni government stresses its concern over the safety for the people of Hudeidah and the surrounding coastline.

The Government commended the ongoing political, military and humanitarian coordination with the Arab Coalition, which is taking place as part of the Coalition’s ongoing support for the legitimate government of Yemen.

Below is the full text of the Yemeni government statement: The legitimate Yemeni government continues to monitor the mediation effort led by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, and expresses great appreciation for his continued commitment to finding a solution to the current crisis that took place as a result of the Houthi Militia's overthrow of the legitimate government and is in compliance with UN Security Council resolutions, in particular resolution 2216, the National Dialogue and the Gulf Initiative.

While closely monitoring the developments of the UN envoy’s visit, who is here in an effort to convince the Houthi Militia to peacefully withdraw from the city and the port of Hudeidah, we urge the Houthi Militia to respond to these efforts, change their positon, surrender their heavy and medium artillery as well as the map to the planted land and sea minefields to the legitimate government of Yemen.

The Yemeni government reaffirms that the continued intransigence of the Houthi Militia and their lack of response to international efforts and UN resolution 2216 which includes the surrender of all weapons and unconditional withdrawal from Houthi controlled areas, will continue to have serious repercussions on the humanitarian and political situation in Yemen. If this does not happen, the legitimate Yemeni Government will have no choice but to continue its current effort to liberate Hudeidah and all other Houthi controlled Yemeni territory.

The Yemeni government condemns the Houthi Militia’s continued practice of planting mines in government buildings and areas populated by civilians and their refusal to allow civilians to move away from areas impacted by military operations and their use of civilians as human shields; a practice that is in violation of international laws as well as our cultural values. The Yemeni government also warns of the danger of placing naval mines and targeting international maritime in the southern Red Sea, saying it is a serious violation of the international law and the international community should take necessary action in this regard.

The government commends the ongoing political, military and humanitarian coordination with the Arab Coalition, which is taking place as part of the Coalition’s ongoing support for the legitimate government of Yemen.

The government also commends the progress made by Yemeni forces, supported by the Arab Coalition, to liberate the city and the port of Hudeidah, which will result, God willing in the alleviation of the suffering of the people of the city and the commencement of the Humanitarian Surge plan put in place.
