Empower participates in ‘Global Industry Leaders Plenary Panel Discussion' at Vancouver

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 13th Jun, 2018) Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, Empower, the world’s largest district cooling services provider, is taking part in the "Global Industry Leaders Plenary Panel Discussion" at the International District Energy Association's, IDEA, 109th Annual Conference and Tradeshow.

The conference began in Vancouver, Canada, on 11th June and concludes on 14th June 2018.

The panel titled "Global Impact" highlighted Dubai’s achievements in the district cooling industry, its solutions and innovations, and shared insights on policies, business models and emerging trends related to more resilient and sustainable energy for modern cities. Empower also participated in "District Energy System Controls and Optimisation" panel discussion and presented the latest technologies in the DC industry. Moreover, it attended high-level meetings with key industry players.

"Sustainability projects are one of the key elements that Dubai and the UAE have adopted, making it one of the world's leading cities in many global competitiveness indicators. This showed when the UAE ranked first regionally and seventh globally in global competitiveness, according to the latest edition of the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2018. Our innovation in the district cooling industry helps achieve a sustainable lifestyle. Dubai has adopted a strategic plan to diversify energy sources in the emirate, deriving 70 percent from gas, 12 percent from coal, 12 percent from nuclear power and 5 percent from renewable energy by 2030," Bin Shafar said.

"Empower adopts the best solutions and innovations in district cooling, to meet the demands of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Plan 2021. We have developed remarkable projects and programmes to combat pollution and climate change and to spread the adoption of district cooling systems. This supports the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy to reduce energy and water demand in Dubai by 30 percent by 2030. The strategy focuses on green building specifications and regulations, retrofitting buildings, district cooling and the reuse of wastewater," Bin Shafar added.

The panellists discussed the most important policies and regulations in the sustainable district cooling industry, shared future insights on market trends, and focused on the panellists' industry experiences of district energy in Canada, Germany/European Union, Singapore, the UAE and the USA.
