Ministry of Climate Change launches green business manual

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has launched a green business manual, with the aim of clarifying the necessary procedures for private sector companies to become green and environmentally-friendly businesses, and to motivate them to meet their social responsibilities.

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 06th Jun, 2018) The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has launched a green business manual, with the aim of clarifying the necessary procedures for private sector companies to become green and environmentally-friendly businesses, and to motivate them to meet their social responsibilities.

The manual supports the objectives of the UAE Green Agenda 2030, which was adopted last year, and the National Climate Change Plan 2050, which aims to create innovative solutions and involve the private sector in controlling gas emissions while maintaining economic growth, adapting to climate change, and promoting economic diversification.

The manual is divided into three sections. The first covers the internal working environment of green offices, the second covers green purchases while the third covers the production of green products.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said that the launch of the manual is part of the ministry’s commitment to its role and strategy to achieve environmental sustainability and increase the contributions of all sectors and the entire community to protecting the environment and its resources, especially the private sector. He added that the manual promotes the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 and the country’s sustainable development goals.

He further added that adopting a green business and economic system has many benefits, including the greater use of environmentally-friendly practices and the preservation of natural resources, as well as decreased labour and production costs, higher efficiency, lower consumption, greater market confidence, and the health and happiness of employees.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi stressed that the manual aims to promote the partnership between the public and private sectors, to assist and develop green businesses, attract small and medium-sized enterprises, and support the UAE’s efforts to ensure a sustainable future despite climate change, according to its vision and strategy.

Related studies and economic forecasts point out that a green economy in the UAE will contribute to the growth of GDP by an average rate of between 4 and 5.5 percent and will create 160,000 new jobs by 2030.
