A hearing on Khawaja Asif disqualification case was held in Supreme Court on Thursday

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 31st May, 2018) Supreme Court Judge Justice Umar Ata Bandial has said that they do not intend to disqualify someone or destroy their future.

According to media reports, a hearing on Khawaja Asif disqualification case was held in Supreme Court on Thursday. Kh Asif had challenged his disqualification by the Islamabad High Court in the Supreme Court.

In his remarks, Justice Bandial said that Kh Asif has apparently shown his salary and sources of income, we cannot disqualify someone for hiding their assets. I don’t know if fellow judges agree to this or not.

The counsel for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sikandar Bashir gave his arguments during the hearing that Kh Asif’s annual salary was above 20 lac Dirhams. Kh Asif only revealed his salary as the member of National Assembly and did not show his foreign salary.

The counsel for PTI’s Usman Dar said that forms to show foreign assets and taxes in the nomination papers.

To this, Justice Bandial remarked that Dar did not raise these points in election petition.

“The employment agreements were not discussed there. You want to say that Kh Asif did not show these details. It needs to be decided if he told a lie in 2011 nomination papers or not. Show us the column in the nomination papers where it is necessary to show one’s salary,” he said.

The counsel said that the the sources of income of Rs 34 million assets were not shown while Rs 3.8 million remittances were received in 2011 which were not shown in the nomination papers. He said that Kh Asif hid his details from the election commission.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah said that we have a case pertaining to Article 62-1(f). If there is no declaration as per Article 62-1(f) then it would be a different matter.

Justice Bandial has said that they did not intend to disqualify someone or destroy their future. He said that we disqualify someone for not showing their income.
