Coffee shop in Karachi hires transgender Barista

Coffee Waghera on its Facebook page introduced Moni Bhatt, first transgender member of their team.

Karachi (Pakistan Point News – 26th May, 2018) The transgender community in Pakistan have always been deprived of their rights.

With increasing transgender activism and efforts from the civil society to include transgender into the national mainstream, we are finally witnessing a change in the country.

A coffee shop in Karachi has hired its first transgender barista, creating a change that the country had always needed.

Coffee Waghera on its Facebook page introduced Moni Bhatt, first transgender member of their team.

“Please join us in welcoming Moni Bhatt, our first transgender member of the team! Moni has had many struggles in life and hopes this is the beginning of an exciting and respectable career for her,” the post read.

This coffee shop also hopes to see many more equal-opportunity workplaces in Pakistan soon.

Earlier Actcept, a campaign outlined to counter hate and extremism against transgender communities by providing civic minded youth an opportunity to interact and extend a helping hand to empower transgender communities of Pakistan, shared the advertisement for the coffee shop looking to hire a transgender.

Coffee Waghera is a coffee shop in Karachi with a dedicated workbench for people who want to work with an uninterrupted Wifi and a cup of coffee that they don't have to think twice about before ordering. The place also aims to provide low-cost franchise opportunities to young entrepreneurs of Pakistan.
