PM, opposition leader decide two names for caretaker PM

A meeting to be held between Prime Minister Abbasi and Opposition Leader Shah between May 15 and May 28

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 5th May, 2018) Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah have agreed on two Names for caretaker prime minister.

According to a news report published in a local newspaper, the prime minister and the opposition leader have decided to resolve the matters regarding the establishment of caretaker government. They have finalized two names for caretaker prime minister.

Sources said that a meeting will be held between Prime Minister Abbasi and Opposition Leader Shah between May 15 and May 28. The date to announce the caretaker prime minister will be decided in this meeting. Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had finalized three names for caretaker prime minister, including Abdul Razaq Dad, Tassaduq Hussain Jilani and Ishrat Hussain.

Earlier, there have been reports that the option to form a caretaker set up under General (r) Raheel Sharif was being carefully considered. Sources said that consideration over this started a year ago. This was because a strong caretaker government should be established for three years that can carry out across the board accountability and free the country of corruption. Such a set up would also bring important reforms and then conduct general elections so a new leadership can come forward and the country is set on the right path.

The policy makers were of the view that a strong caretaker government for a period of two to three years is required to achieve the difficult targets for the country. This is why establishing a caretaker government under General (r) Raheel Sharif was being considered. Majority of the policy makers had agreed on the former army chief’s name. They opine that General (r) Sharif has closely seen all types of terrorism, including urban, rural and economic and has been countering it during his tenure.

Moreover, he better understands external pressures as well. He has developed better relations with important people of several countries after being appointed as the head of 41-countries Islamic Military Alliance. He is welcomed in the Gulf countries.

The policy makers think that General (r) Sharif possesses a strong personality and can achieve these objectives for Pakistan.
