Pakistan, South Africa Agree To Expand Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Sep, 2016 ) : Pakistan and South Africa on Friday agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation especially in the field of defence production. The agreement reached in a meeting between Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and High Commissioner of South Africa Mpendulo Kumalu, said a press release issued here.
They exchanged views on matters pertaining to bilateral interests and enhancing cooperation in diverse fields including defence production, culture, tourism, agriculture, science and technology.
The minister said both Pakistan and South Africa were enjoying warm and cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties between them in 1994. He said Pakistan had the honour of hosting late President Nelson Mandela twice, who visited Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
Rana Tanveer Hussain underlined the need for exploring ways and means for joint ventures in different fields. He also discussed Tourism visa policy with the High Commissioner and apprised him about the problems being faced by Pakistani community living in South Africa.
The minister expressed the desire that there should be frequent exchange of delegations between the two countries at all levels. He invited the Defence Minister of South Africa to attend the IDEAS, a defence exhibition, scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
The High Commissioner assured the minister to resolve visa problems of Pakistanis residing in South Africa. He also thanked Pakistan's support for freedom of South Africa from apartheid regime, adding that Pakistan was at the forefront of the international efforts to dismantle the apartheid system.
