Pak F-16s conduct drills to counter possible Indian attack

Islamabad, (Pakistan Point News – 23rd September, 2016) : Several tweets with images of Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) F-16 fighter jets hovering over Islamabad or taking off from the city’s motorways gave residents anxious moments late Thursday night. Residents were wondering about the activity held by Pakistan Air Force. Many, who ran into their homes due to the thunderous noise made by the fighter jets, thought it could be indication of a possible attack by India in response to the terror strike by militants at an army base in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

On the 2-day war drills High Mark, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted: “The defenders of our skies, in a state of constant readiness, Alhamdolillah. Our motorways are our runways”. He also said that said the drill was needed to prepare for situations when runways get damaged. People saw saw four to five fighter jets hovering on the sky. Defense sources also confirmed the forces were conducting war exercises. PAF spokesperson Commodore Javed Mohammad Ali said the 2-day air force exercise called High Mark was routine and should not be linked to recent tensions with India. Traffic on the motorway between Islamabad and Lahore was diverted to an older mountain road on Thursday night.
