Govt. response over holding of census termed unsatisfactory

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -21st Sept,2016) : A three members bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed its displeasure and rejected the report submitted regarding holding of census in the country.

The court also summoned Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) on next date of hearing on October 4 to assist the court. The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the suo-motu notice case.

During the course of proceedings, Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar informed the court that the AGP was in abroad on official visit so he could not appear before the court.

He pleaded the court to grant time.

The CJP expressed annoyance and remarked that it was a sensitive matter and government failed to hold census. He observed that the matter would not be resolved on papers. The bench remarked that the government should show seriousness in holding of census otherwise the court would give verdict on the matter.
