Minister hails ILO assistance to counter child labour

LAHORE,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -21st Sept,2016) - Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource,Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has lauded technical assistance by ILO for elimination of child and bonded labour in the province.

In a meeting with Country Director of International Labour Organization (ILO) in Pakistan Ms. Ingrid Christensen and Assistant Regional Director General for Asia and Pacific Tomoko Nishimot here on Wednesday, the Minister appreciated the efforts of ILO, European Union and other donor agencies for holding successful South Asia Labour Conference-2014 in Lahore where all stakeholders, not only from Pakistan but also from the whole region fully participated and presented valuable suggestions for improvement of labour sector.

Ingrid Christensen lauded the efforts of Punjab government on its welfare oriented projects for labour community, especially elimination of child labour from brick kilns, auto workshops, petrol pumps,hotels and restaurants.

She also appreciated enrolment of children of these sectors in government schools,Non-formal Basic Education Centers, Partner Schools of PEF,Vocational Training Institutes of Punjab Vocational Training Council at TEVTA, provision of free education, books, uniforms, shoes, stationary and other facilities along with monthly stipends.

She expressed satisfaction on the status of implementation of Labour laws linked with ILO Conventions in Punjab and said that province has taken lead from other provinces of the country in providing facilities to labour community, initiating result-oriented welfare projects and legislation for this vulnerable section of society.

She stressed upon the need of formulation of a Tripartite Forum, involving all the four provinces of the country,and sustainable policy making process for labour class The Country Head was accompanied by National Project Coordinator ILO Mian Muhammad Binyamin, Focal Person of ILO in Punjab Saad Gillani.

Secretary Labour and HR Sohail Shahzad and other concerned officers of the Labour Department were also present on the occasion.
