National Assembly body rejects "The Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill, 2017"

The National Assembly's Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Thursday rejected "The Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill, 2017", saying that a bill regarding extension of jurisdiction of Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court had already been passed, which would be presented in the Senate.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Mar, 2018 ) :The National Assembly's Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Thursday rejected "The Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill, 2017", saying that a bill regarding extension of jurisdiction of Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court had already been passed, which would be presented in the Senate.

The committee meeting, chaired by Muhammad Jamal ud Din, considered the proposed bill briefly and recommended "the said bill may not be passed by the Assembly." Members of the Committee were of the view that "a bill regarding the extension of jurisdiction of Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court has already been passed by the Assembly and will be tabled in the Senate in due course of time." The body also discussed the issue of delay in transfer of posts of 89 Badarga Force of the Gomal Zam Dam project of South Waziristan Agency, FATA from Water Wing to Power Wing in detail and directed the Chairman, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to resolve the issue of their regularization on priority basis and submit a report accordingly.

The committee discussed the issue of disparity in salaries, allowances of the Federal Levy and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and recommended that the Ministry of SAFRON, FATA Secretariat and other stakeholders to look into the matter and prepare proposals for uniformed salaries and submit a report within 15 days.

It expressed concern over delay in execution of development projects and schemes in FATA, recommending the Finance Division to release third quarter for timely completion of the projects. The committee further discussed the issue of non-regularization of staff of FATA education Foundation and recommended the Ministry of SAFRON, FATA Secretariat and FATA Education Foundation to look into the matter and regularize the staff as per the court decision.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Muhammad Nazir Khan, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Iffat Liaqat, Sheikh Fayyaz-ud-Din, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Surraiya Jatoi, Shahjahan Baloch, Qaiser Jamal, Nasir Khan, Muhammad Kamal Malik, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, Bilal Rehman and Bismillah Khan, besides Minister of State for SAFRON Abdul Qadir Baloch and senior officers of concerned department.
