Lahore (Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2018) In an exclusive interview with urdu Point, Pakistan Information Technology board (PITB) chairman Dr. Umar Saif has said that with Digital Punjab project, the government has introduced several digital projects in health, education and other important departments that are reaping many benefits. While telling about the E-Khidmat Rozgaar project of Digital Punjab, Dr. Saif said that the citizens do not need to visit several offices to get their ID cards, driving licenses and domiciles made. In fact, they can do all this by visiting only one center. “Our applications are also available in this regard that has all the details of the documents required for any task,” he said, and added that E-Khidmat Centers have been established in various cities of the country. “In this way, a common citizen can do all this stuff with a single token. At least 1.7 million people have been benefitted from these centers,” he said. Dr. Saif added that ‘Patwari culture’ common to Punjab required bribes so we introduced an online digitized system for land ownership to get rid of the previous practices. By far, the record of 570,000 rural land owners has been digitized, he said, and added, “We are also launching a mobile application that would have all the land records. Anyone can update their land ownership documents using this app.” He went on to say that similarly, we eliminated ‘Thaana culture’ and established a front desk having an IT professional. His job is to enter every citizen’s complaint into the computer. The police then convert this complaint into an FIR within 72 hours. In case, a complaint is dismissed, its reason is also explained. “The entire system of a police station has been computerized. Criminal records have also been digitized that are greatly helping the police in arresting them,” the PITB chairman said. About the reforms in education system, he said, “We have brought many digital reforms in the education system as well. Over 1,100 people go to the schools and upload their reports from a GPS enabled in the vicinity of the school. They also tell about the absence of students and teachers as well as performance of the schools. We have established a website to upload this record while tablets have also been provided to computerize the enrolment of the students.” Furthermore, we have worked hard to digitize the smaller hospitals and make them better. The attendance of doctors is taken through a biometric process. After the introduction of this digital technology, the attendance of doctors in hospitals has increased from 53 percent to 87 percent, Dr. Saif. Moreover, he said, “The Hajj system in Pakistan has also been computerized that has improved it since last two years. Nijerian Hajj Commission also wrote us a letter after our success and we gave them this system.” Dr. Saif said that the Digital Punjab projects are now being acknowledged at the international level and several countries, including Nigeria, Dubai, Kazakhstan are working according to our system. We have also written a book on all our projects and the changes they have brought which is accessible on our website, he concluded.
