NEW YORK, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -10th Sept,2016) : An American woman, who is reportedly a supporter of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, allegedly attacked two Muslim women who were pushing their baby strollers through Brooklyn, a borough of New York City.
The New York Daily news reports that 32-year-old Emirjeta Xhelili yelled Islamophobic slurs at two Muslim women who were out on a walk with their babies near her Brooklyn home. The woman was quoted as yelling "This is America — you shouldn’t be different from us." She punched the two women in their faces and tried ripping their hijabs off their heads, the report said.
Prosecutors even alleged that she tried knocking over the stroller that contained a 15-month-old baby. The Daily News notes that she has several social media posts in which she cheers on Donald Trump's candidacy and portrays him as some sort of mythical savior.
"America is the ark of Noah," one reads. "Trump's gonna win." Xhelili, whi originally hails from Albania, is being held on $50,000 bond, or $25,000 cash bail. The Council on Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement urging authorities to take Xhelili's actions seriously.
"We urge the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office to prosecute this horrific attack vigorously, sending the message that hate attacks targeting any minority group will not be tolerated," CAIR-New York Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
"We urge mosques and Islamic institutions to increase security measures, particularly this weekend as the nation marks the solemn occasion of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, which some may use as an excuse to attack American Muslims."
