DVRS To Be Extended To Other Districts Of Punjab

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -10th Sept,2016) : Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said on Saturday that Dealers Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) has been introduced in Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi which would be extended to other districts of province till December 2016.
He said the DVRS had been developed on modern lines so that no vehicle with fake or inappropriate number plate could be seen on roads. Addressing a press conference at DG PR Media Hall here, he said that under transport facilitation programme, a crackdown had been launched against fake number plate vehicles and motorcycles.
An ordinance has also been issued in this regard which would be presented in Punjab Assembly for approval after Eidul Azha, adding as per the ordinance, fine from Rs 15,000 to 500,000 alongwith two years imprisonment would be awarded to those who use or develop fake number plates, the minister said.
Shujaur Rehman said the awareness was being created among people regarding fake and inappropriate number plates.
The awareness camps have been set up at six places in city where officials of E&T and City Traffic Police were distributing pamphlets and other awareness material besides educating them, he maintained.
The minister said that vehicles with green number plates were also being inspected during the campaign. He said that the courier service (TCS) company had not deliver number plates to 450,000 vehicle owners due to their wrong addresses but now the E&T department has delivered 150,000 number plates to vehicle owners whereas the remaining 300,000 number plates would be sent to the vehicle owners within next 20 days.
Shujaur Rehman added that special camps have also been established where officials of TCS company and E&T were providing information regarding number plates of vehicles. Chief Minister Special Monitoring Cell incharge Salman Sufi, Excise and Taxation Secretary Dr Ahmad Bilal, Excise and Taxation DG Akram Ashraf Gondal were also present on the occasion.
