International Women’s Day observed at UVAS

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed the International Women’s Day with the theme of “Press for Progress” here on Thursday in City Campus Lahore

LAHORE(Pakistan Point News - 08th Mar, 2018 ) The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed the International Women’s Day with the theme of “Press for Progress” here on Thursday in City Campus Lahore. In this connection, the university organised a walk led by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha to create awareness about women’s rights while UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, UVAS Syndicate members Prof Dr Kosar Jamal Cheema and Prof Dr Kosar Malik while delegation from Sri Lanka Dr Sumidhi, Associate Professor Ms Subotsina Iryna from Republic of Belarus and a large number of female administrative staff, faculty members were present.

Later a seminar was held in the university auditorium hall, The Chairman Higher education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed presided over the seminar where speeches and poems presented to highlight the women status in the society. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said that woman have equally rights in the religion of islam even in our culture and society as well. He also mentioned hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us “heaven lies under the feet of mother”.

He said half of the country’s population comprises of women and Pakistan could not make progress without their involvement. He shared in his life mother played a vital role in brought up, teaching and also for the attaining of his bright future through her continues support and devotions. In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that women are provided equal rights at the UVAS and they are always encouraged to equally participate in UVAS various department activities.

Dr Pasha mentioned 44 percent UVAS strengths of female students, 36 woman`s working in administration on various posts and 44 female faculty members are teaching in different departments of UVAS. He also shared the achievements of UVAS female students in extra-curricular sports activities especially in chess. Prof Dr Kosar Jamal Cheema said that woman day commemorates the inspiring role of women as a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister and a homemaker. She said woman day is the great success of women across all spheres of life as well as shaping the future.
