International training course on Poultry Viral Diagnostics starts at UVAS

The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Royal Veterinary Collage London has organised a weeklong “International training course on “Poultry Viral Diagnostics” here on Monday

LAHORE (Pakistan Point News - 05th Mar, 2018 ) The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Royal Veterinary Collage London has organised a weeklong “International training course on “Poultry Viral Diagnostics” here on Monday. Renowned Poultry Industrial Dr Mustafa Kammal and UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha co-chaired the inaugural ceremony of the course while Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Chairman Department of Microbiology Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub and academicians and researchers from public & private organizations, postgraduate students related to veterinary & animal sciences, microbiologists and experts from different countries, including Sri Lanka, Belarus and all over Pakistan attended.

Dr Mustafa Kammal said that poultry sector is the vibrant sector in food production in the country. He said that poultry industry is facing many challenges regarding health, influenza and Newcastle diseases which cause the loss of poultry industry and poultry export. He said that academia is providing innovative scientific support for the growth of industry to curb the poultry disease issues through innovative scientific research and such training course is the part of it.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the workshop provides a platform to national and international experts for networking and learning from each other’s experiences. Meanwhile, Secretary Finance Punjab Mr Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh also visited UVAS and delivered an informative lecture on the topic of food security and socio cultural significance to participants of the training. The weeklong course will cover all the major areas related to poultry sector, food security and socio cultural significance, status of poultry diseases both viral and bacterial in South East Asian countries, avian respiratory viral diseases, molecular tools in study of viral pathogenesis, diagnosis, characterization and evolutionary analysis, genome extraction and its quantification, primer designing and validation, etc.

Earlier, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated a conference room in the Department of Microbiology to facilitate researchers regarding the latest advancements in microbiology. The conference room has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
