LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -8th Sept,2016) : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed a civil miscellaneous application, seeking directions for lifting a ban on exhibition of film "Maalik" till the announcement of the final decision on main petition in this regard.
The court held that it had already reserved verdict in the main petition and now the application did not have any significance. Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza heard the civil miscellaneous application, filed by one Abdullah Malik in a pending petition, challenging the ban on the film.
Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the court had reserved verdict on petition challenging the ban on exhibition of film Maalik.
However, due to the ban on the movie, the filmakers have been deprived of their basic rights to freedom of business or adoption of a profession, enshrined under Article 18 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, he added.
He pointed out that the Sindh High Court, announcing a verdict on an identical petition, had withdrawn the ban on the movie. He pleaded with the court to lift the ban till the announcement of the final decision on the main petition. APP/syh/rsd/ati 18:19/18:34/18:34
