Senate polls: Scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates from Punjab today

The scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates from Punjab for Senate elections will be held Monday.

ISLAMABAD,(Pakistan Point News - 12th Feb, 2018) : The scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates from Punjab for Senate elections will be held Monday. As many as 34 candidates have submitted their papers for 12 seats. Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had received nomination papers from 144 candidates for 52 seats in Senate elections. According to the document issued by ECP, there are 34 candidates each from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) while 28 from Balochistan and 47 from Sindh.

One nominee from Islamabad emerged for technocrat seat while the body received nomination document for FATA. Ishaq Dar, PM’s sister Barrister Sadia Abbasi and others have been picked by the ruling PML-N which eyes to gain overwhelming majority in the upper house. PTI Chairman Imran Khan named Chaudhry Sarwar, Andleeb Abbas from Punjab while Faisal Javed, Major (retd) Fida Hussain, Azam Swati, Meher Taj Roghani, Khayal Zaman Orakzai and Ayub Afridi from KP. While PPP has retained the name the Raza Rabbani in its list, MQM-P’s internal rift over Senate polls resulted in nominations from both faction separately.
