11-member contingent to feature in two cycling events in India

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -7th Sept,2016) : An 11-member Pakistan cycling contingent will participate in two back-to-back cycling events at Delhi, India, starting from September 14.

The first event, Asian Track Cup will be held from September 14-16, while the second one the South Asia Cycling Championship will take place from September 17-18. "The Indian authorities have cleared our squad for these events.

We've also applied for their visas in Indian Embassy in Islamabad. Hopefully, we will get these well in time and our cyclists will leave for the neighbouring country via Wagah Border on September 12," Secretary Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) Syed Azhar Ali Shah told APP on Wednesday.

Pakistan squad is consisted of seven cyclists and four officials.

The cyclists to represent the country include national champion Sabir, Hafiz Tahir Mehmood, Noor Alam, Mohsin, Najeeb, Zeeshan and Sqib Daud, while the officials to accompany them include Mumtaz Riaz (Manager), Ayesha Riaz (Assistant Manager), Jan Alam (Coach) and Sumeer Ghulam (Mechanic).

According to Azhar, Pakistan cyclists had been preparing hard for the events and a good show was expected from them. "Our cyclists have the potential to do well. We've provided them the required training at a camp in Lahore and are confident they'll produce good results," he added.

He said that the cyclists were selected purely on merit stating, "We've selected the best available cyclists after trials at Cycling Velodrome ,Lahore."
