Islamabad:(Pakistan Point News - 29th Jan, 2018 ) Expressing serious concerns over re- appointment of Dr. Asim Hussain as Chairperson Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC), the Working Group on Higher Education Reforms has demanded for appointment of a new SHEC chief through transparent and merit based competitive process. The Group comprising prominent academicians, said that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, higher education has become provincial subject.

It is the duty of respective provincial governments to cater the growing needs of universities in an effective way. It would be only possible if transparency and merit based appointments would be ensured and culture of adhocism and extension would be discouraged by respective provincial and Federal governments. They also demanded the Chief Minister Sindh to appoint academicians at key posts in Sindh HEC through merit based selection process so that this important provincial body could play its facilitative and supportive role for improving the state of higher education in the province. The working group also emphasized over establishment of inter provincial higher education forum to share expertise and experience in higher education sector.
