ISLAMABAD, (Pakistan Point News - 24th Jan, 2018 ) Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani Wednesday said that no one can derail democracy if the Parliament, people and state stakeholders have firm determination to protect the democratic institutions. Talking to senior media persons during visit to the newly set up Museum regarding Senate history here, the Chairman said democracy is the name of continuous struggle. The Chairman along with journalists had a round of the Museum at which sculptures of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto along with other political leaders at the time of the adoption of 1973 constitution have been put on display.
Another sculpture is that of the chairman of the first Senate session Habibullah Khan. Other sculptures include leader of the House Raja Mohammad Zafarul Haq and leader of the opposition Aitzaz Ahsan. The Chairman said the archive in the Museum has data of all the chairmen and the deputy chairmen of senate since 1973. He said the Senate is a powerful institution and it forcibly snatched democracy from the jaws of dictators.
Mian Raza Rabbani stressed the need for keeping the younger generation informed of the sacrifices otherwise it would not be able to fully understand the importance of constitution, democracy and parliament. He said historic pictures have been displayed about the history of the upper house of parliament. He said that constitution and democracy have not been given on a platter but through martyrdoms, sacrifices and jails. He said if there is continuity in transfer of power from one civilian government to another, democracy would be strengthened.
