Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry says Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will formally present the federal budget before the lower house of Parliament
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 9th, 2026) The Federal government is expected to present the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 12, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Tuesday.
He stated that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will formally present the federal budget before the lower house of Parliament.
The proposed date reflects another change in the budget schedule, which has already undergone multiple revisions in recent weeks due to ongoing consultations with coalition partners and discussions on key fiscal proposals.
Earlier, the government had planned to table the budget on June 10 after postponing it from June 5.
The minister further said that a summary has been forwarded to convene sessions of both houses of Parliament. According to the proposal, the National Assembly session is expected to be held on June 10 at 5pm, while the Senate session is likely to be called on the same day at 4pm.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), which was scheduled for June 8, has been postponed for the third time. The delay comes amid continued consultations on the national development plan and the macroeconomic framework for the upcoming budget.
An official final schedule for the Economic Survey of Pakistan and the federal budget has not yet been issued.
According to official sources, the government’s allied partners have been engaged in intensive consultations over proposed budgetary measures. A key meeting between leadership of coalition partners recently resulted in broad agreement on most fiscal proposals, while a few outstanding issues are being reviewed by technical committees.
Officials said coalition discussions have focused on ensuring economic stability, public welfare priorities, and alignment of development spending with national needs. It was also emphasized that economic measures should support social welfare and sustainable growth.
Parliamentary sources indicated that delays in the budget announcement were mainly due to reservations raised by coalition partners over certain proposals, prompting further negotiations before final approval.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has previously stated that efforts are underway to build consensus among all stakeholders, including allied political parties and international partners. He noted that the budget preparation process is being coordinated with fiscal reform priorities, including tax system improvements, enforcement measures, and broadening the tax base.
He also indicated that the government aims to avoid introducing new taxes while maintaining a balance between fiscal discipline, economic stability, and political consensus.
Under constitutional requirements, the federal budget must be approved by June 30 to take effect from July 1, marking the start of the new fiscal year.
According to budget documents, the government has proposed a development outlay exceeding Rs1.1 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-27, allocated across various sectors of the economy.
