471,347 Vehicles Impounded, 35,828 Violators Arrested During Drive

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Nov, 2017 ) :A crackdown has been launched against juvenile drivers and violators of traffic rules in all districts of Punjab under the supervision of DIG Traffic.
In the last 10 months, traffic police impounded 471,347 vehicles and arrested 35,828 drivers which was 4.3 per cent more than the ratio of the previous year. DIG Traffic Muhammad Farooq Mazhar said that from January to October, 5,367,029 traffic violation tickets were issued which was 7.14 per cent more than the last year.
The violators were fined up to Rs 1.897 billion which was 9.72 per cent more than the last year, he said. He added a special campaign had been launched against juvenile drivers, illegal blue lights and green number plates, tainted glasses and fake number plates and one wheelie.
Due to strict measures of traffic police there had been a decline of 3.73 per cent accidents in cities, he said and added to avoid accidents on highways, it had arranged 622 televisions and FM 894 Radio programs for awareness among the public.
As many as 709 walks, 376 traffic weeks and 1,250 traffic days had been arranged besides conducting 6,036 lectures in educational institutions and 7,980 lectures and seminars had also been held at buses and trucks terminals about traffic rules.
